Law minister Anisul Huq on Friday assured that family of madrassah student Nusrat Jahan Rafi would be provided with security measures as long as they require after they felt insecure following announcement of verdict of the sensational murder case.

Nusrat’s elder brother Mahmudul Huq, referring to threats issued by the convicts’ relatives, demanded to the government to provide his family with security by the police at least until execution of the verdict in the case of murdering Nusrat.

Law minister Anisul Huq at a press conference at his Gulshan residence in Dhaka said, ‘Nusrat’s family will be provided with security as long as they require. I further want to say, if any relative of the convicts or any vested quarter issues threat to Nusrat’s family, they would be brought to justice.’

The minister said the death reference of case would be prepared for hearing in High Court in possible shortest period.

He made the assurance while giving his reaction on Thursday’s verdict in Nusrat murder case.

Referring to old cases’ references, he said that the High Court might consider mitigating factor of having a baby of a death row convict woman but they might uphold the trial court’s sentence for others.

Feni Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Thursday sentenced Sonagazi Senior Islamia Fazil Madrassah principal SM Sirajuddoula, 57, and 15 others to death and fined Tk 1 lakh each for murdering Nusrat, a student of the madrassah by setting her afire.

On Friday, special prayers were said at different mosques in Sonagazi as all the convicts were punished exemplarily and Nusrat’s family members and relatives said prayers at her grave at village Charchandia in Sonagazi.

Sonagazi police station officer-in-charge Moin Uddin said a five-member team led by a sub-inspector was deployed at Nusrat’s home.
