Dhaka University theatre professor Israfil Shaheen and Russian Embassy officials were present at the present at the press conference.
‘The Russians practice a distinctive theatre style which is very engaging and vibrant. I hope that the workshops conducted by Chekov Studio will help our students and theatre activists’, Israfil Shaheen told New Age.
Chekov Studio has already begun conducting separate workshops on acting, direction and design at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday where theatre activists from different troupes and theatre department students of different universities are participating.
The troupe will stage Chekhov’s Seagull, a three-hour production, at different venues of Bangladesh Shilpakala Shilpakala Academy this evening. The first act of the play will be staged at the Nandan Mancha, the second act will be performed at coffee corner and the final act will be staged at the National Theatre Hall.
Seagull was written by Anton Chekhov in 1895. The play dramatises conflicts between the four main characters: a storywriter, an ingénue, a fading actress and her son, who is a playwright.
The troupe will stage Anton Chekov’s The Bear- at Experiemntal Theatre Hall of the academy tomorrow.
