Cultural organisation Kranti Shilpi Goshti celebrated its 52nd founding anniversary organising a programme at Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of Sufia Kamal National Public Library on Wednesday.
The programme, titled ‘Sangskriti Hok Somaj Bodoler Hatiyar’, featured a cultural show, discussion and an awards ceremony.
Liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque attended the ceremony as the chief guest. President of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote Ghulam Quddus and president of Bangladesh Ganasangeet Samannay Parishad Fakir Alamgir were present as special guests at the programme, presided over by president of Kranti Shilpi Goshti Nilupher Jahan Chinu. Kranti’s general secretary Jharna Alamgir delivered the welcome speech on the occasion. The programme began with Kranti artiste’s rendering the song Amra ei biswa-er bukey gorbo rangmahal.
Following which, the organisation honoured the director general of Bangla Academy poet Habibullah Siraji and renowned singer Mahmud Selim respectively with Kranti Padak 2019 and Mahmudul Haider Mohon Padak at the programme.
‘Kranti honours eminent personalities for their contribution to the cultural arena of the country every year. We have previously honoured singers and artistes like Namita Ghosh, Abu Bakar Siddiqui, Ferdousi Priyabhashini and Akramul Islam, among others,’ said Jharna Alamgir.
AKM Mozammel Haque handed over the award to Habibullah Siraji and wished him well in his future endeavours.
He said, ‘To build a beautiful society, we have to promote cultural practices. In the last few years, corruption has spread tentacles to all strata of the society. To bring a change, the government is trying to spread cultural practices across the country.’
‘I feel honoured to receive an award named after Mahmudul Haider Mohon. He was a renowned singer, freedom fighter and cultural activist. I would like to continue working for enriching the cultural sector of the country as long as I live,’ said Mahmud Selim after receiving the award.
Later artistes of Udichi Shilpi Goshti rendered two songs like Shikhha anirban and Shokhinare praner shokhina, artistes of Satyen Sen Shilpi Goshti rendered Banglar mati banglar jol and Eki brintey duti kushum. Artistes of Wrishiz Shilpi Goshti and Bonhi Shikha also performed at the programme to the delight of the audience.
Artistes of recitation organisations Trilok Bachik Pathsala and Muktadhara Sangskriti Charcha Kendra recited poems.
Artistes of cultural troupe Nrityajon presented a group dance recital.
Kranti Shilpi Goshti was founded in February 1967. The organisation has been working to make people aware about the anomalies in society since its founding.
