At least one person was killed and 30 more injured during changing position of locomotive of a train at Kaunia railway station in Rangpur on Thursday.
The accident took place when a locomotive hit the standing compartments of Uttarbanga Mail Express on Shantahar-Panchagarh route failing break when it was being attached to the compartments.
The train left the spot three hours later after the accident.
The deceased was identified as Apel, a resident of Kurigram who lived at Gaibandha.
Kaunia police station officer-in-charge Abdul Aziz said locomotive of the Uttarbanga Mail Express hit the standing compartments of the train at the station around 4:00pm after failing brake.
Bangladesh Railway officials said position of the train locomotive needed to be changed at Kaunia for reaching Panchagarh.
As the locomotive hit the compartments with huge strength, some of passengers fell down, said Abdul Aziz.
Fire service deputy director Shamsujjoha said casualty in the accident was thing as most of the passengers were waiting on the station platform getting off from the train as the locative was changing position.
Two compartments were badly damaged in the accident, said railway officials.
Police and fire service unit recovered the body of Apel and sent the injured to the Kaunia Upazilla Health Complex and different other hospitals.
BR chief operating superintendent (west), Shahidul Islam, told New Age that primarily the locomaster was found responsible for the accident. The train finally left the station around 7:00pm, he said.
He also said that a five-member committee was formed by the railway west zone to probe the incident.
