Cultural organisation Swapnakuri arranged a charity show at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday to raise money for the treatment of ailing poet Mahmud Tokon.
The programme titled ‘Sharadiya Ashor’ featured dances, songs and recitation.
Artistes presented popular songs of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore at the programme while dancers entertained the audience with colourful dance recitals.
Besides, seasoned and upcoming poets recited self-penned poems at the show. The programme commenced with a Kathak dance recital by Ananya Wafi Rahman.
Following which, Naseer Ahmed, Farooq Mahmood, Farid Kabir, Junan Nishat, Sanjib Purohit recited self-penned poems at the event.
Later, singer Yasmin Mushtari, Chhaya Karmakar, Pradip Nandi, Asma Zaman Rita and others rendered popular Nazrul and Tagore songs like Rumu jhumu, Ke eley nupur paye, Ganga shindhu narmada, Aji borsha rater sheshey, Jokhon porbe na mor, Ki rong lagale boney boney and others.
Principal secretary to the prime minister’s office Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and writer Ali Ahmed were present as special guests.
‘We organised the programme to help aligning poet Mahmud Tokon, who is suffering from cancer. I hope other cultural organisations will also come to his aid,’ Swapnakuri director Hasan Mahmud told New Age.
