Sylhet mayor Ariful gets threat on life

Unidentified callers on Thursday threatened Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury on his life over mobile phone.

The corporation’s public relation officer Shahab Uddin Shihab recorded a general diary in this regard on behalf of the mayor with Kotwali police.

The general diary read unidentified callers from two separate mobile numbers— 01712132598 and 01921784681 — in the morning threatened to kill the mayor.

Mayor Ariful told New Age a piece of two bigha government land adjacent to the International Cricket Stadium at Lakkatura in the city was recently allotted to establish a high school there.

When he was returning Nagar Bhaban after visiting the land, undefined people continued make calls on his mobile.

‘The callers made abusive comments and threatened to kill me,’ Ariful said.

Kotwali police officer-in-charge Selim Miah confirmed New Age of the filing the general diary and said that they were investigating into the complaint.
