One killed, 7 hurt over land dispute

A man was killed and seven others injured as two rival groups clashed over a disputed land at village Kulunia in Pabna on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Idris Ali, 50, of Kulunia. He had a long-standing enmity with Ashraf Ali of the same village over a disputed land in the village.

Members of both the groups locked in a fight with bamboo, sticks, iron rods, and sharp weapons at the Kulunia Bazaar area around 8:00pm on Sunday.

Pabna Sadar police officer-in-charge Md Obaidul Haque said that Idris Ali was hacked by the members of Ashraf Ali’s group that left him critically injured. 

Idris was admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 10:00pm. 

Of the injured, Ripon Ali, 30, and Siddique Ali, 35, were admitted to PMCH in critical condition, the OC said.  

Police sent the body of Idris to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination on Monday morning, the OC said, adding that the police were investigating the incident.  No case was filed in this regard. Additional police were deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
