Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha, an organisation of Tagore singers, observed the 78th death anniversary of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore organising a two-day festival.
The festival, held at Shawakat Osman Memorial Auditorium of Sufia Kamal National Public Library on Friday and Saturday, featured awards ceremony, songs, poems and others.
Kamal Lohani inaugurated the festival on Friday as the chief guest. BRSSS president Tapan Mahmud presided over inaugural ceremony.
‘Though the 78th death anniversary of Tagore will be observed on August 7, we decided to observe the occasion earlier this year,’ said Tapan Mahmud.
BRSSS vice president Makbul Hossain gave the welcome speech at the inaugural ceremony.
Following the inauguration, Kamal Lohani handed over a crest to renowned music exponent Azad Rahman for his outstanding contribution to Tagore songs.
BRSSS artistes commenced the cultural show rendering the Tagore song Aguner poroshmoni chhoao praney.
On Friday, singers like Salma Akbar, Dipa Chowdhury, Rabita Sabah, Mahzabin Rahim Maitri, Mita Dey, Tanushri Bhattacharya, Akhi Halder, Mira Mandal, Subha Akbar, Suma Roy, Rumjhum Bijoya Ritchil, Sajed Akbar, Ghulam HaiderAcharya Jayanta, Shafiqur Rahman, Bishnu Mandal, Nukul Chandra Das, Jibon Chowdhury, Matiur Rahman, Abhik Dey, Abdur Rashid, Kajal Mukerjee, Sagorika Jamali, Ruma Mandal, Khokon Das, Banani Dutta and Tonni Saha, among others, performed solo songs.
They rendered Tagore’s songs like Amar nishita ratero badalo dhara, Majhe majhe dekha pai chirodin keno pai na, Tomar ashim pranamon loye joto dure ami dhai, Tumi naba rupe esho praney, Noyon tomarey paina a dekhitey, Royechey noyoney noyoney, Amar praner pore chole gelo ke, Nibir ghana adharey jolichey dhrubatara, Jibon moroner shimana chharaye, Bondhu hey amar, Royecho dariye, Dinguli mor shonar khachay roilo na, Bhora thak smritir shudhay, Ogo tumi ponchadoshi, Asha jawar pother dhare and Amar ei poth chaowatei ananda, among others.
Besides, artistes recited popular poems penned by Rabindranath Tagore.
On Saturday, singers like Tapan Mahmud, Bula Mahmud, Pijush Barua, Makhal Howlader, Mahadev Ghosh, Mamun Zahid Khan, Tanzina Toma, Anindita Roy, Lili Islam, Kanak Khan and others rendered solo songs.
