Central leaders of Nagarik Oikya on Saturday at a human chain formed in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka called on the government to stand beside the flood affected people.
Mominul Islam, central leader of the party, said that more than 20 districts of the country were flood affected and a huge number of people were suffering from the lack of food and shelter.
He called on the government to send relief and manage shelters for the flood victims.
The Awami League government assumed in power after a farcical general election held on December 30, so they were ignoring their responsibilities to the people of the country, Mominul claimed.
He called on all the opposition political parties to be united to wage a movement against the government.
Chaired by Mominul Islam, the rally was addressed, among others by party’s central leaders Jahidur Rahman, Mofakhraul Islam, youth leader Kabir Hasan, Shahinul Alam, Nazmul Hasan and Sakib Anwar.
The rally was followed by a procession that paraded different city roads.
