Ahornish holds folk music evening

Music lovers of Dhaka were in for a treat at Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum on Friday where singers entertained the audience rendering folk songs penned by eminent bards.

The programme, titled ‘Dohar Lokogaaner Tritio Ashor’, was organised by folk music troupe Ahornish. It featured songs penned by Lalon Fakir, Bhaba Pagla, Radharaman Dutta, Hason Raja, Shah Abdul Karim, Jagadish Goshai and others performed by Ahornish artistes and guest folk artiste Leepika Taposhi.

Leepika Taposhi commenced the show rendering a Lalon song Ei bela tor ghor-er khobor. She next performed Bhaba Pagla’s song Nadi bhora deho and Radharaman Dutta’s song Torey banaiya rai binodini along with Hason Raja’s song Agun laiya gelo koney, Shah Abdul Karim’s Tomra Kunjo sajao go and others.

Following Leepika’s performance, artistes of Ahornish took the stage.

The troupe began its performance rendering Radharaman Dutta’s song Koli dhonyo sri chaitanya and later presented Jagadish Goshai’s song  Mon amar pujibi kare, Bhaba Pagla’s song Ekhon sei brindabone banshi bajere and others.

‘Folk songs remind us of our roots. We have organised the event to both celebrate and promote the songs of our bauls and mystic bards who have enriched our culture with their rich and diverse creations,’ said Ahornish leader Asaduzzaman Kiron.

‘This is the third music show organised by us. The previous two shows were held at Bishwa Sahitya Kendra,’ he added.
