Bangladesh Nationalist Party MP Rumeen Farhana on Monday told parliament that the independence of judiciary had become just a delusion as the judiciary what she said was still in the grip of the government.
Taking part in rejected call attention notice in the house, the MP also demanded immediate release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
She said that as Khaleda Zia was prime minister for three times, she has right to get bail on the ground of her age, status, gender and health condition.
Rumeen said that the Awami League government withdrawn cases against their leaders and activists filed during 1/11 government while 26 lakh activists of BNP were arrested in old cases and one lakh more were held new cases.
She said that former chief justice SK Sinha was forced to leave country after he raised question over independence of judiciary.
Beside, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal MP Shirin Akhter for the constituency of Feni 1 demanded that the government should enact a new law ensuring tougher punishment for molesters and abusers of women and children.
Pointing to Monday’s news reports on increasing number of rape incidents and women and child repression, Shirin said, ‘Why our society is going downwards when we are telling that we are heading towards development. — when we are telling about good governance under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, we must have to find out the reason,’ she added.
