The 21-member newly elected executive committee of Actors’ Equity began its journey through a programme held at National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday.

The programme, titled ‘Obhinoy Shilpi Sangher Abhishekh’, featured discussion and cultural show.

Actors Equity president Shahiduzzaman Selim, its general secretary Ahsan Habib Nasim, Directors’ Guild president Salauddin Lavlu, Television Programme Producers’ Association of Bangladesh president Iresh Zaker and others spoke on the occasion.

‘We want to make the entertainment industry vibrant again. I hope everyone working in the entertainment industry will support our cause. We have several plans which we want to implement to advance the entertainment industry in the next two years. I would urge the government to recognise TV artistes like other professionals and introduce an award like National Film Award for the artistes working in this field. We want to create an environment where actors can showcase their talent and get the recognition they deserve. We will make at least two documentaries on two artistes every year and archive those,’ said Shahiduzzaman Selim.

‘We will work jointly with Directors’ Guild and Television Programme Producers’ Association to make our industry dynamic. We will celebrate Actors’ Day every year on December 22,’ said Ahsan Habib Nasim.

Following the discussion, a vibrant cultural show was held to the delight of the audience. Actors’ Equity was formed in 2002. The organisation has since been working as a platform to forward interests of the artistes.
