Artist Mahmudul Haque to receive Japanese honorary award

Renowned artist-professor Mahmudul Haque has been named among the foreign recipients of the 2019 Spring Imperial Decorations.
Haque, honorary professor of University of Dhaka, has been named recipient of ‘the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon’ for his contribution to strengthening cultural exchange through promoting modern art both in Japan and Bangladesh, said a press release from the embassy of Japan in Bangladesh.
‘I have been working to strengthen the cultural ties with special focus on the fine arts practices in Bangladesh and Japan for many years now. I am glad and honoured to receive the award,’ said Mahmudul Haque, who, after completing his graduation at Bangladesh College of Arts and Crafts (presently Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka) earned another masters at Tsukuba University, Japan.
Haque has displayed his works at around 15 solo shows in Japan and had also helped organise many exchange shows between Bangladeshi and Japanese artists.
He was also a visiting professor at Tsukuba University during 1993-94.
