Buddha Purnima was celebrated in Rangamati with colourful procession, art competition, discussion, prayers and various other programmes on Friday.
People belonging to the Buddhist community brought out a colourful procession that began in front of the DC office.
Lawmaker Dipankar Talukder in Rangamati inaugurated the procession that ended at Ananda Bihar at Tabalchari.
Colourful Buddha flags were flown by Buddhist participants at the rally.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at Ananda Bihar, where Buddhist monks asked the participants to follow Buddha’s teaching in order to lead an honest and peaceful life.
The meeting was presided over by venerable Sraddhalankar Mohathero, president of Parbattya Bhikku Shanga Shilopal Vhikku, Buddha Dutta Bhikku, Naillashar Mohathero, Dipak Chakma, Shukumar Dewan, Indu Lal Chakma, among others.
Later, a prayer was organised for world peace and welfare of the human race.
An art completion was organised by Naksaful Art and Music School on the occasion of Buddha Purnima at Gang Sabarang Restaurant. Students from different schools in Rangamati took part at the competition.
The competition was inaugurated by Suchitra Chakma, vice-president of Institute for Peace Arts and Sciences. Prakriti Ranjan Chakma, president of Bangladesh Adibashi Forum CHT branch was present as chief guest.
Special security measures were taken by the law enforcing agencies to thwart any untoward incident during Buddha Purnima celebration. Temporary check posts were set up at different points in Rangamati.
