Students of Islamic University in Kushtia staged a street play titled, ‘Bichar Chai’, on IU campus on Saturday demanding justice for Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who passed away on April 10 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn unit.
Nusrat, a student of Feni’s Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrassah, was set afire on April 6 allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case against the principal.
The play has been written by final year student of the Bangla department Anamul Haque.
The play was staged at the Daina Chattar of the university at around 1:30 pm. Law Awareness and Values Development Centre organised the event.
Adnan Hossain Chawdhury directed the play while Tanmoy Hafiz, Rezwa, Piyas, Emran, Nahid, Rakib, Rifat, Ashfika, Shamoly, Kowshik and Akash enacted various roles.
The play portrays how the accused in rape cases are escaping punishment in contemporary society.
More than two hundred teachers and students of different departments thronged the venue to enjoy the drama.
Among others, IU law faculty dean Professor Reba Mondol, law department associate professor Rehena Parvin, Bangla department associate professor M Saifuz Zaman and Law Awareness and Values Development Centre president Mominur Rahman were present at the event.
