A Rana Plaza volunteer reportedly immolated himself at his house at Birulia of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on Thursday night.
Nawshad Hasan Himu, 27, better known as Himaloy Himu, was son of Abul Hossain, a resident of Barishal.
Himu’s setting self on fire coincided with April 24, at the sixth anniversary of Rana Plaza collapse, the worst industrial disaster of the world.
Himu was a volunteer rescuer during Rana Plaza collapse which killed 1,138 workers and injured over 2,000 in 2013 at Savar.
Savar police station sub-inspector Asgar Ali said that Himu set fire by pouring kerosene on him near his rented house.
The body was sent to the Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for post mortem examination.
After post-mortem examination, his mortal remains are taken to Barishal for burial at family graveyard.
Bangladesh Garment Workers Solidarity president Taslima Akhter and general secretary Julhashnayeen Babu expressed deep condolence at the death of Rana Plaza rescuer Himu who was a former organising secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra Federation.
