The 39th national council of Bangladesh Chhatra Union, student front of Communist Party of Bangladesh, began on Thursday on Dhaka University campus to pick new leaders for the 67-year old student organisation.
The theme of the council is ‘Ratrir Govir Brinto Theke Chhire Ano Futonto Golap’.
Language Movement veteran Golam Arif Tipu inaugurated the four-day programme at the base of Aparajeya Bangla at Dhaka University hoisting the national and organisation flags.
On the occasion, he said that current education system was now in grip of the capitalists. He urged to establish a non-communal and discrimination-free society.
The International Crimes Tribunal’s chief prosecutor also hoped that Chhatra Union would play a vital role to make a discrimination-free Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation War.
Chhatra Union president GM Zilani Shuvo said that the student front played a pivotal role in spreading the light of knowledge to remove darkness and inequality in the society.
He also said that Chhatra Union would continue their movement against commercialisation of education, communalism and disparity.
As a part of the council, reunion and cultural function would be held today and council session would be held on April 27 and 28.
The last Chhatra Union council was held on September 2-5, 2017 where GM Zilani Shuvo and Liton Nandi were elected president and general secretary respectively.
