A group of musicians presented songs of Rabindranath Tagore that were inspired by evening ragas at a programme at the Chhayanaut auditorium on Friday.
Cultural troupe Panchobhaswar organised the event and featured a musical production titled ‘Sandhar Surey Rabindranath,’ in which noted singers Laisa Ahmed Lisa and Imtiaz Ahmed presented the songs accompanied by noted sarod player Shahdat Hossain Khan and tabla player Yousuf Ali Khan.
The instrumentalists played ragas that feature the first, second and third phrases of the night – while the singers presented the songs written based on them.
The show began with a presentation of the song Nitya Tomar Je Phool Phute, which is based on raga yamen.
Ustad Shahdat Hossain Khan first played certain parts of the raga on his sarod and the signers then presented it in a duet performance. Their skilled vocalisation and the ear-soothing tune of sarod pleased the hearts of the crowd.
In solo performances, Laisa Ahmed Lisa rendered Meghlai Bahir Holem while Imtiaz Ahmed presented Tumi Sodhar o Meghomala.
In total, the group collectively presented nine night-time ragas including malkosh and bihag.
A houseful audience enjoyed the show.
