Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the Independence Award 2019 to 12 distinguished persons and one organisation in Dhaka on Monday in recognition of their contributions to their respective fields.
Sheikh Hasina will hand over the highest civilian honour of the country to the recipients at a function at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the morning on the eve of Independence Day.
The government declared the names of 12 noted persons and an organisation for this year’s Independence Award on March 10.
Those nominated for the award are martyred intellectual Mufazzal Haider Chowdhury (posthumous), martyred ATM Zafar Alam (posthumous), AKM Mozammel Haque, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Doctor Kazi Misbahun Nahar, Abdul Khalek (posthumous) and Professor Mohammad Khaled (posthumous) in the independence and War of Independence category, Brigadier General Doctor Nurun Nahar Fatema Begum in medical science, Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad in social service, Murtaza Bashir in culture, Hasan Azizul Haque in literature, Doctor Hasina Khan in research and training and the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture in science and technology.
