A three-day Lalon Festival will begin at Lalon Akhra in Chheuria village, Kushtia from today.
The festival, which is held annually, has been organised by the Lalon Academy in association with the cultural affairs ministry to pay tribute to late eminent mystic, songwriter, social reformer and thinker Lalon Shah.
The three-day event will feature Lalon Fair, discussion and rendition of Lalon songs by artistes of Lalon Academy and bauls from across the country.
Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, energy adviser to the prime minister, is scheduled to inaugurate the festival. Kushtia district commissioner Aslam Hossain will preside over the inaugural programme.
The festival venue has been decorated beautifully. Hundreds of bauls, sadhus, thousands of devotees, along with common enthusiasts are gathering at Chheuria to attend the event.
‘Additional police personnel have already been deployed to ensure security,’ said Kushtia district commissioner Aslam Hossain.
The festival will continue till Friday.
