Protesters demand fresh DUCSU polls, VC’s resignation

Protesting students, who have boycotted the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union polls, on Monday demanded for re-election and resignation of the university’s vice chancellor.

The demand came from a rally at the base of  Raju Memorial Sculpture at around 12:00pm.

Boycotting classes, the protesting students took position in front of the VC’s residence.

Their 5-point demands include reschedule and re-election of DUCSU, resignation of DU VC Akhtaruzzaman along with officials involved in DUCSU polls, withdrawal of cases filed against their fellow agitators and punitive measures against the attackers.  

The rally was addressed, among others, by Chhatra Federation-backed central general secretary candidate Umme Habiba Benajir and independent alliance VP candidate Arani Semanti Das.

Earlier on Sunday, the panels that boycotted DUCSU and hall union elections vowed to stage sit-in in front of the vice-chancellor’s office.

The panels include — Pragatishil Chhatra Oikya, Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, Swatantra Jote, Chhatra Federation, Swadhikar Swatantra Parishad.
