Bangladesh cricket team head coach Steve Rhodes believed that his charges were well strong enough to come out of the trauma of Christchurch attack to move on their life.
At least 50 people died in attacks on two mosques in the city of Christchurch during jumma prayers and a big contingent of Bangladesh team were heading towards one of the mosques, Al Noor in the same time for offering the prayer.
The whole terrified team, which was given no protection on their way to offering Jumma prayer in the mosque, was able to leave the area by walking without having any casualties but the incident made serious impact on the whole team.
‘They will be good and they will be strong,’ Rhodes told New Age upon team’s arrival in Dhaka on Saturday.
The Bangladesh cricket team was in Christchurch for their third and final Test of a three-match series, which was scheduled to begin Saturday.
The Test was promptly cancelled and the Bangladesh Cricket Board and New Zealand authorities arranged for the team to leave the country at the earliest possible time.
A Singapore Airlines flight carrying 19 members of the team, including all players and head coach Steve Rhodes, touched down Dhaka airport at 10:40pm on Saturday.
Rhodes, who was at the practice ground when they incident took place with the rest of team members, reiterated that he has seen a beautiful bonding among cricketers and with spending more time with their family members, they all will be all-right.
‘There is a beautiful bonding I have seen among the cricketers and I think it will help them to overcome from the situation. I think when they spend times with their families, they will soon come out from that,’ said Rhodes.
The 54-year old Englishman condemned the heinous incident as disappointing and hoped not to see such incident in future.
‘What happened there is really disappointing,’ he said.
‘I hope it will not happen in near future and the long future. It was not a nice experience for them to leave and see but it has gone now. We, everybody feels for the families and sadly the people who were lost,’ he added.
