Five-day long 13th National Furniture Fair 2016 kicked off in the capital on Tuesday to attract both local and foreign customers.
The fair was hosted by Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners’ Association at the International Convention Centre Bashundhara where 26 leading furniture making companies of the country are showcasing their products. The Design and Technology Centre (DTC) organised the fair.
The fair will remain open everyday from 10am to 9pm till October 15 for the visitors.
Commerce ministry senior secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamoon was the chief guest at the inaugural session while Export Promotion Bureau vice president Mafruha Sultana and Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association president KM Aktaruzzaman were present as the special guests.
Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed inaugurated the fair through telephonic conversation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mafruha Sultana stressed on the need for utilizing high technology as well as skilled manpower by raising their capacity through proper trainings.
She also said that there is huge potentials of Bangladeshi furniture products in the global market.
BFIOA president Selim H Rahman said that the main purpose of organising the fair is to inform people about the local furniture industry as well as the foreign customers about the quality of the products manufactured in Bangladesh.
He also urged the government for providing necessary cooperation to the local furniture manufacturers for raising skill of the manpower engaged in the industry.
BFOIA leaders Ilias Sarker and Sheikh Abdul Awal were present on the occasion.
