A two-day theatre fair featuring plays, seminars, talks and others will begin on Rajshahi University campus today.
Anarta, a RU-based little magazine on theatre, has organised the fair.
‘We are organising a fair on theatre for the first time. The event will provide a platform for theatre activists to share their experiences and ideas,’ said Rahman Raju, editor of Anarta and associate professor of RU theatre department, while speaking at a press conference on Saturday.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s director general Liaquat Ali Lucky will inaugurate the festival in front of RU Syed Ismail Hossain Siraji Building at 11:30am.
RU vice chancellor professor M Abdus Sobhan will be present as the chief guest while pro-vice chancellors’ professor Ananda Kumar Saha and professor Choudhury M Zakaria will be present as special guests at the inaugural ceremony.
Honorary president of International Theatre Institute Ramendra Majumdar, noted actor-director Mamunur Rashid, renowned theatre and recitation artiste Biplob Bala will also attend the programme. Following the inauguration, the organisers will bring out a procession on RU campus.
A seminar on theatre titled ‘Theatre Nepotthya O Prattakhya Manus’ will be held on the opening day.
‘The fair will feature three seminars and three talks on theatre. More than thirty four dramatists from home and abroad will participate in the events. We will also honour two theatre activists for their contribution,’ said Rahman Raju.
In the two-day fair, three plays will be staged at the university’s Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium.
