A section of officials of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission have complained about irregularities in recommendations for promotion of its officials.
Around 30 officers of the rank of deputy director, senior assistant director and assistant director of BTRC filed the complaint with the acting chairman of the commission, Md Jahurul Haque, on Tuesday, BTRC officials told New Age on Wednesday.
Copies of the complaint were also sent to the telecom minister and to the telecom secretary.
The complaining BTRC officials also demanded that the commission should scrap the recommendations made by a committee that deals with promotion to avoid any internal chaos at the commission.
‘We will investigate any complaint regarding the recommendations on promotion,’ Jahurul told New Age on Wednesday.
On December 17 last year, the government approved 86 new posts for the telecom regulator.
The approval of the government, however, is subject to approval of the telecom ministry on the alignment of the new 86 posts with the existing organisational structure.
BTRC has also to include the newly created posts in its regulations.
The commission at a special meeting held on December 27 last year reorganised its organogram adding the posts to it. Now it is waiting for approval from the telecom ministry.
The BTRC’s committee related to promotion held a meeting on January 21 after the office hours in absence of the office secretary of the committee.
The BTRC officials in the complaint also mentioned that the meeting of the committee was called hurriedly without following due procedure.
They alleged that the committee also recommended for promotion of a number of officials who did not have the required qualification for promotion without taking annual confidential reports into cognizance.
