On Thursday, June 28, students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) organised a demonstration in front of the administrative building demanding JU Students’ Union polls.
Students, under the banner of Pragatishil Chhatra Jote and Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote jointly announced their programme at a press meeting held on the campus on Wednesday.
The demonstration took place an hour before the beginning of university’s annual senate meeting scheduled at 3.00 pm.
Pragatishil Chharta Jote vice-president Mahatir Muhammad said, ‘Without JUCSU representatives, the senate is incomplete.’
Sangskritik Jote president Md Ashikur Rahman told New Age, ‘No JUCSU election had been held in the last 27 years. This is unlawful and goes against 1973 public university act. We will continue our movement until our demands is met’.
