In Pabna, 42-year old Sabahara Party leader Md Nizam Uddin Mondol was killed allegedly in a ‘gunfight’ with police.
According to police, Nizam of Mirpur in Aminpur thana, Bera upazila in Pabna, was the regional leader of a faction of the Sarbahara Party.
The police described Nizam as the key suspect of murdering three police officers at Dhalarchar police camp in 2010.
Nizam was watching a World Cup soccer match on the TV at a neighbour’s house at 10.15 PM on Saturday, when he was picked up by uniformed police, neighbours told New Age.
They said that Nizam was missing ever since.
Nizam came from a very poor family, they said.
Pabna additional super
intendent of police Goutam Kumar Bishwas told New Age correspondent in Pabna that Nizam was killed in a gunfight with the police at Dhalarchar in Bera, Pabna early Sunday.
The police officer claimed that a team of Amirpur thana police raided Dhaarchar Daspara following tip off that a group of dacoits were taking preparations to commit dacoity.
He said the dacoits opened fire forcing the police to retaliate when Nizam was hit by a bullet and the police took him to Bera Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries at about 1.30AM on Sunday.
He said that the police team seized a pistol, three bullets and three machetes from the spot.
Additional SP Goutam, denied the allegation that the police had picked up Nizam.
In Jessore, Monir’s family members alleged that he was picked up by plainclothes police from the main gate of Jessore Central Jail the afternoon of June 21.
New Age Correspondent in Jessore, quoting Monirampur police station officer in-charge Mokarram Hossain, reported that police recovered bullet-hit bodies of two suspected miscreants from crop field at Chhatiantala under Monirampur upazila early Sunday.
The OC claimed that the duo was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with a rival group.
After the bodies were taken to Jessore General Hospital for post mortem examination, relatives identified 30-year old Monirul Islam of Ranagati, Abhaynagar, Jessore.
His brother Mehedi Hasan told reporters that plainclothes police picked up Monirul Islam from the Jessore Central Jail’s main gate in the afternoon of June 21 after he was  released on bail in a murder case.
OC Mokarram, however, denied the allegation.
The police, could not, however, identify the other victim, until Sunday night except saying that he was 32-year old.
