One killed, two burnt in city factory fire

One person died and two others were injured in a fire that broke out at an embroidery factory at Kazipara area in the capital’s Mirpur early Saturday.

The deceased was Md Masum, 17, son of Abu Taher, resident of Bhola.

The injured were Moinuddin, 21, son of Kalu Mia, resident Bhola, and Al-Amin, 20, son of Suruj Zaman of Purba Nakhargur of Kurigram Sadar upazila.

All three men were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn and plastic surgery unit after they sustained critical burn injuries where Masum died around 4:30pm.

The remaining two survivors were undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit with severe burns, said the burn unit’s resident surgeon Partha Shankar Paul.

The fire started at the ground floor of a five-storey building at Kazipara around 3:00am on Saturday, said Fire Service and Civil Defence control room officials. 

Being informed by the local people, six fire fighter units went to the spot and rescued the victims from a room of the factory.

The fire fighters managed to put out the flames around 4:30am.

The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained immidiately.
