Abdul Mannan Syed as a poet was analysed at a seminar organised by Bangladesh National Museum at Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium on Sunday.
Noted writer and editor of literary magazine Kali O Kalam Abul Hasnat presented the keynote paper on Abdul Mannan Syed at the seminar. Poet Habibullah Shirazi attended the seminar as a discussant. Poet Asad Chowdhury presided over the event and director general of Bangladesh National Museum Faizul Latif Chowdhury delivered the welcome speech.
‘Abdul Mannan Syed left his mark on all branches of literature like fiction, poem, translation, essay, and so on. However, he made invaluable contribution to Bengali poetry,’ said Abul Hasnat in his keynote paper.
Syed’s publication on Jibanananda Das titled ‘Shuddhotomo Kobi’ is not only an academic research but also a classic work of Bengali literature, added Abul Hasnat.
Though Abdul Mannan Syed published works dealing with every branch of literature, I think of him as a poet, said poet Asad Chowdhury.
Poet Habibullah Shirazi talked about Abdul Mannan Syed’s poems and also recited selected poems penned by Syed.
Abdul Mannan Syed was a poet, author and researcher. He was regarded an authority on Bengali literature and published many important works during his lifetime.
Among Syed’s most talked about creations are Janmandho Kobita Guchcha, Shuddhotomo Kobi and Shotter Moto Bodmash. He passed away on 5 September, 2010.
