An opposition MP on Monday demanded statement of home minister Asaduzzaman Khan over the disappearance of journalist Utpal Das.
Taking the floor on a point of order, Jatiya Party MP, Peer Fazlur Rahman said that 10 people went missing in the past two months.
‘One of them is journalist Utpal Das, who has been missing for over a month. It is the duty of the state to find out if anyone goes missing. It is not believable that the law enforcement agencies cannot recover him yet,’ he told parliament.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presided over the sitting.
Fazlur said that if the journalist was involved in any misdeed, he should be brought to book.
Utpal works for purbapashchim.com, an online news portal.
The MP said that Utpal’s father, a retired school teacher, had been knocking on the doors of law enforcement agencies to know his son’s whereabouts.
‘Utpal had a mobile phone with him. And it is very much possible to find out his whereabouts through tracking his mobile phone,’ he said.
