Jahangirnagar University campus correspondents of different print and electronic media decided to boycott covering all types of programmes of JU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League.
They came up with the decision through an emergency meeting of Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association Wednesday evening as JU BCL unit did not take any initiative against its leader Hamza Rahman Anter for his misconduct with the campus journalists, said a press release.
Hamza Rahman Anter, a master’s student of Drama and Dramatics department of the university and also a vice-president of JU unit BCL.
The release also said that Hamza Rahman spread propaganda against JUJA and other students in social media and misbehaved with the campus journalists and general students.
The release also mentioned that Hamza spread false information about campus journalists as they reported news against him.
Last month, Hamza rebuked a former JUJA president and some former general students on social media.
JUJA general secretary Shoriful Kabir Shamim said, ‘Anter is doing controversial activities regularly but the JU BCL did not take any action against him though we requested other BCL leaders to take steps against him. As they did not take any steps against him, we have decided to boycott all positive news of JU BCL unit.’
Earlier in 2015, the university authorities suspended Hamza for three months for assaulting a female student.
However, JU unit BCL secretary S M Abu Sufian Chanchal said, ‘They did not take any decision to suspend him over the issue.’
