A man suspected to be a robber was killed and another one man was injured in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion at Lemua in Feni Sadar early Wednesday, the battalion said.
Tipped-off that a gang of robbers was committing robbery on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, the battalion personnel conducted a drive in the area, claimed squadron leader Shafayat Jamil Fahim, Feni camp commander of RAB-7.
The robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, he added.
Two robbers, Foysal, 24, and Nur Hossain Selim, 26, received bullet-wounds during the gunfight, Shafayat said.
Both of them were taken to Feni General Hospital where on-duty physicians declared Foysal dead, the RAB official said.
Two locally made guns, bullets and sharp weapons were recovered from the spot, Shafayat said.
The body was sent to the hospital’s morgue for a post-mortem examination.
