Gazi Group Cricketers dashed the title hopes of Abahani Limited as they recorded a thumping six-wicket win over the defending champions in their penultimate Dhaka Premier League match at BKSP on Friday.
The win took Gazi’s tally to 24, two more than Abahani with both sides having one game left.
Gazi are also ahead of Abahani in head-to-head record winning against the sides in both legs, which meant the holders cannot overtake them even if they win their final game and Gazi lose.
However, the title race is far from decided as current runners-up Prime Doleshwar has the chance to catch Gazi in the table as they have two matches left. They will face Mohammedan Sporting Club today before facing Gazi in a potential title decider in the final round.
Doleshwar will be on par with Gazi in both net points accumulated and head-to-head count should they win the last two matches, meaning the title would be decided through net run rate.
