Former JCD president Rajib, 3 other leaders sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Thursday sent four former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders, including its former president Rajib Ahsan, to jail in a case filed against them on Wednesday on charges of obstructing police duties.

The other arrested are former JCD joint secretaries Abdur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam and Ashraful Islam.

Metropolitan magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessy passed the order sending them to jail till September 13, when the court will hear a remand prayer of the Dhanmondi police station.

The Dhanmondi police arrested them at Dhanmondi and prosecuted them on charges of hampering the police from their duties. Earlier on Thursday, opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam in a statement expressed his concern as whereabouts of Razib and the three others had not known for several hours after they had been picked up by plainclothesmen at about 11:15pm on Wednesday.
