Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib’s 91st birth anniv observed in Mauritius

The Bangladesh high commission in Mauritius celebrated the 91st birth anniversary of Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the wife of the founding president of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

On this occasion, a lunch event was hosted at a shelter home for underprivileged female adolescents at Beau Bassin in Mauritius. A total of 20 adolescent girls live at the shelter home, a press release said on Sunday.

In the beginning, a special munajat was offered for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Fazilatunnesa Mujib and all the members of their family, wishing good health for prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and happiness, peace and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh and Mauritius. During the ceremony, a documentary, received from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of Bangladesh on the life and the ideology of Fazilatunnesa Mujib was screened.

Bangladesh HC to Mauritius Rezina Ahmed said that Fazilatunnesa Mujib was a courageous, fearless and prudent woman.

‘She was not only the wife of Bangabandhu but also a comrade of the war of the independence of Bangladesh,’ she added.

The director of the shelter home, Aysha Jumon, thanked the Bangladesh HC for organising the programme.  

Apart from the underprivileged girls, prominent personalities from Mauritius, members of the HC, and print and electronic media personnel of Mauritius were present on the occasion, the release reads.
