3 killed in Munshiganj road accident

Three people were killed in a road accident at Alipura area under Gazaria upazila in Munshiganj in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased are – Sharmeen, 16, resident of Demra area in Dhaka, Liza, 19, resident of Badda area in Dhaka and Md Nayan, 35, of Netrokona district.

Gazaria highway police outpost inspector Md Kamal Uddin told New Age that the accident took place on the Dhaka-Chattogram national highway.

Quoting the family members, he said, Sharmeen and Liza had started from Cumilla around 3:30am on Thursday to go to the Dhaka by renting a car which was driven by Nayan.

‘We’re assuming that the car was running at a high speed and fell into a roadside ditch,’ he said and added that the car was almost submerged in the water after being upturned.

As the place was covered with trees, no one immediately saw the car, he continued.

Kamal Uddin said that they got information about the accident around 8:30am and recovered the bodies inside the car with the help of fire service personnel.

The bodies were taken to the Gazaria health complex while initiatives were under process to hand over the bodies to their families, he added.

Families of Sharmeen and Liza also declined to file any case, he added.
