Bangladesh logged 187 more Covid deaths and an additional 3,697 cases in 24 hours ending Thursday morning.
The daily test positivity rate is 32.19 per cent while, among the eight divisions, highest 44.18 per cent test positivity rate was reported in Dhaka division, according to the daily update of the Directorate General of Health Services.
With the latest statistics, the total death toll hits 18,685 and infections to 11,40,200 since it had recorded the first death from the viral disease on March 18, 2020.
Among the deceased, 117 are male and 70 female are patients.
A total of 11,486 samples have been tested during the reporting period across the country at 639 laboratories while Bangladesh had tested 73,76, 374 samples as of July 22.
In the past 24 hours, 8,566 patients recovered from the viral disease totaling the recovery to 9,69,610.
Of the deceased, 157 died in public hospitals, 28 in private hospitals and two died at their homes, according to the government statistics.
In case of the divisions, Dhaka logged the highest death toll of 75 people followed by 44 in Khulna, 23 in Chattogram, 15 in Rangpur, 11 in Barishal, 10 in Rajshahi, five in Mymensingh and four in Sylhet divisions.
In cases of the daily test positivity rate, the highest rate 44.18 per cent was recorded in Dhaka division followed by 37.15 per cent in Barishal, 30.54 per cent in Chattogram, 28.1 per cent in Rajshahi, 25.43 per cent in Sylhet, 23.27 per cent in Rangpur, 22.61 per cent in Khulna and 21.67 per cent in Mymensingh divisions.
Among the deceased, two wee from 91 to 100 years, eight from 81 to 90 years, 27 from 71 to 80 years, the highest 64 from 61 to 70 years, 49 from 51 to 60 years, 12 from 41 to 50 years, 20 from 31 to 40 years, four from 21 to 30 years, and one aged from 11 to 20 years, said the DGHS release.
Besides the death of Covid patients, reports received from different districts of the country said that a good number of patients had died with Covid symptoms at the Covid units in hospitals there.
New Age correspondent in Barishal reported that, in the past 24 hours till Thursday morning, 10 patients – four at Covid patients and six having symptoms – died at the Covid unit of Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a total of 22 more people, including nine females, died at Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital during the last 24 hours till 6:00am Thursday.
RMCH director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani told newsmen that among the deceased seven tested positive for Covid-19 and 15 had symptoms.
