Artistes paid tribute to the late Ekushey Padak-winning folk maestro Mumtaz Ali Khan rendering Baul and Bhatiali songs at an online programme organised by Radharaman Sangskriti Charcha Kendra on Sunday.
The event, titled Nagarik Palli Geeti, was the seventh programme arranged by Radharaman Sangskriti Charcha Kendra to popularise folk songs among the younger generations.
It was streamed live on the organisation’s Facebook page at 9:00pm.
Singers Narayan Chandra Shil and Tamanna Nigar Tuli rendered Baul and Bhatiali songs penned and composed by Mumtaz Ali Khan and others at the event, which was anchored by Radharaman Sangskriti Charcha Kendra general secretary Biswajit Roy.
Narayan Chandra Shil sang songs, including Achin ganyer achin bandhure, Bou katha kao, Murshid path dekhaiya dao, Pakhi koio bandhuar nagal paile and Ongila nao baiya jao.
Tamanna Nigar Tuli rendered songs like Dure chakrite prananath jaio na, Amar mon bhala na, Jogi bhiksha loy, Goon goon gan gahia and Agun jwalais na amar gaye.
‘Mumtaz Ali Khan enriched Bangla music with his timeless creations. Steps should be taken to promote his works. We arranged today’s programme as part our initiative, Nagarik Palli Geeti, which we undertook to popularise folk songs among the younger generations,’ said Biswajit Roy.
