Detectives will take immediate steps against Bashundhara Group managing director Sayem Sobhan Anvir, accused in a case of instigating a girl to commit suicide in Gulshan area of Bangladesh capital Dhaka, if Gulshan police seek help to the detective branch.

Harun or Rashid, joint commissioner (North) of detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said this on Monday while briefing the journalists after arresting five people from Uttara area in a case of attempt to rape and murder filed by popular actress Pori Moni.

Two of the named accused were among five arrested within a few hours after Pori Moni filed the case with Savar police station on Monday morning.

Police were quick in arresting accused in the case but there was almost not visible progress in the investigation into the case over death of Mosarat Jahan Munia in Gulshan in which accused Sayem was yet to be quizzed.

Replying to a question over the issue, Harun said ‘Yes, we have arrested many, including Hefazate Islam Bangladesh leader Mamunul Haque, within shortest possible time. We take immediate steps whenever an investigation officer of a case requests or requisitions us to arrest someone,’ Harun said.

Nusrat Jahan, sister of the Mosarat filed a case against Bashundhara MD Sayem Sobhan Anvir after police recovered her dead body from a flat in Dhaka’s Gulshan area on April 26.

Her family members expressed frustration as police are yet to arrest Anvir.
