Police on Wednesday night arrested the headmaster of a high school at Baralekha upazila in Moulvibazar for allegedly killing his brother.
The arrested was identified as Shahidul Islam, the headmaster of Rajnagar Ideal High School in the area.
The deceased was identified as Aptab Uddin, a former teacher of Dakshinbhag Girls High School of Baralekha upazila.
Shahidul was produced before a court on Thursday and the court sent him to jail.
Baralekha police sub-inspector and investigating officer of the case Yakub Ali said Shahidul was arrested on Wednesday at about 10:30pm with the help of Rajnagar police from sadar union of Rajnagar upazila.
According to the victim’s family, On May 18, Aptab had a quarrel with his nephews Sabbir Ahmed and Ripon Ahmed Gang over fishing next to his house. At one stage they attacked Aptab with locally made sharp weapons and injured him seriously.
He was rushed to local upazila health complex. As his condition deteriorated, on-duty doctor sent him to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he died in the morning.
Tanvir Ahmed, son of Aptab Uddin, filed a case in this connection.
Police later arrested Sabbir Ahmed.
The victim’s family member alleged that Shahidul Islam ordered to kill Aptab Uddin as he had previous enmity with him over a land related dispute.
