The Bangladesh Bank on Thursday extended the validity of its policy relaxation for the import of coronavirus-related medicines till December 31 from June 30.
The BB’s foreign exchange policy department issued a circular in this regard on the day.
The policy relaxation would help expedite import of medicines and medical equipment essential to tackle coronavirus, a BB official said.
Under the policy relaxation, advance payment up to $5,00,000 or equivalent amount for import of coronavirus related life-saving drugs, medical kits or equipment and other essential medical items can be made without repayment guarantees.
The usance period for input imports by industrial importers can be up to 360 days for making payment instead of 180 days for input imports by industrial importers.
The same facility is applicable to imports of agricultural implements and chemical fertilisers.
The BB official said the central bank has extended the policy support up to December 31, 2021 since the same support for exporters has been extended.
