The police on Tuesday submitted a charge sheet within 24 hours of a killing at Srinagar in Munshiganj in a rare move.

The investigation officer submitted charge sheet against Gias Uddin Bepari for killing his son on Monday afternoon.

Such quick charge sheet is rare in police investigation, police officials said.

Munshiganj police additional superintendent Asaduzzaman said that Gias Uddin stabbed to death his son Md Ripon, 30, Monday afternoon during an altercation.

Mentally instable Ripon  demanded Tk 100 from his father. Gias Uddin rejected the demand ensuing an altercation. At one stage, the father stabbed his son, said police officials.

Ripon’s mother Momtaj Begum filed a case with Srinagar police station Monday evening against her husband Gais.

Police arrested the accused and produced before a Munshiganj court where he confessed to the killing, said Asaduzzaman.

After the confession, investigation officer inspector Nazmun Nur submitted the charge sheet to the court.

District police superintendent Abdul Momen said that they followed all the procedures before submitting the charge sheet.

‘We have recovered the weapon used in killing, the accused made confessional statement and post-mortem report was prepared quickly by the hospital authorities,’ he said.

He said that it was a clear case and evidences were available and procedures were properly followed.
