Liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque on Wednesday said that a decision was taken to shift the national identity service to the home ministry from the Election Commission.
‘Honourable prime minister Sheikh Hasina has already given consent to shifting all activities of the NID to home ministry,’ he said at a briefing after a meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order at the secretariat in Dhaka.
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, law, justice and parliamentary affairs minister Anisul Huq, industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmad and state minister for public administration Farhad Hossain, public security division secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin, inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed and director general of Border Guard Bangladesh Major General Md Shafeenul Islam joined the meeting.
Mozammel said that concerned authority would have to give on NID related written feedback to the service recipients within a month.
‘If the NID cannot be issued against any application, the written feedback should include the reasons behind it,’ the minister added.
