Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Wednesday claimed that Dhaka south city people suffered less following Tuesday’s waterlogging than last year after a pre-monsoon rain.

While distributing apartments among the cleaner of the city corporation at Nagar Bhaban, the mayor also said that although waterlogging was recorded less than last year, DSCC was taking steps to fix the problem based on the experiences they gathered.

The mayor said that centring housing crisis of the cleaners, a group of extortionists were active over the years in the cleaners’ colony.

‘We will not tolerate any extortion anymore,’ he said.

He promised to ensure housing for city corporation officials too.

The mayor hoped that the waterlogging problem would soon be solved. DSCC set a working plan on this issue to drain out rain water after extremely heavy rain within three hours, heavy rain within two hours and medium rain within an hour, he added.

DSCC chief executive Farid Ahmed, member of the parliament from Dhaka-5 Kazi Monirul Islam, DSCC ward-49 councillor Badol Sarder and reserved ward councillor Lovely Chowdhury, among others, were present.
