Different government and cultural organisations celebrated the 122nd anniversary of birth of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on Tuesday.
Cultural affairs ministry, Kabi Nazrul Institute, Bangladesh Shilpkala Academy, Bangladesh Nazrul Sangeet Sangstha, Chhayanaut, Bangladesh Sangeet Sangathan Samannay Parishad and others arranged programmes featuring discussions and cultural performances.
Cultural affairs ministry, Bangla Academy, Kabi Nazrul Institute and others paid tribute to the poet placing floral wreaths at his grave on Dhaka University Central Mosque premises in the morning.
Kabi Nazrul Institute organised a programme featuring discussion and cultural performances at its auditorium at 10:00am. It was streamed live on the Facebook page of the institute.
Executive director of Kabi Nazrul Institute Mohammad Zakir Hossain delivered the welcome speech at the programme, which was presided over by Kabi Nazrul Institute trustee board chairman and president of Bangla Academy national professor Rafiqul Islam.
Kazi Nazrul Islam’s granddaughter Khilkhil Kazi was present as guest at the programme.
The institute also streamed a documentary on the life and work of Kazi Nazrul Islam on its Facebook page at 7:00pm.
Bangladesh Shilpkala Academy streamed a live programme on its Facebook page at 3:00pm. It featured discussion about the life and work of Nazrul. Besides, artistes performed songs and poems penned by Nazrul and dance recitals synchronised with Nazrul songs.
BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the programme where cultural affairs secretary Md Badrul Arifin was present as special guest.
Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Manoranjan Ghoshal, joint secretary of cultural affairs ministry Shawkat Ali, Nazrul singers Fatema Tuz Zohra, Khairul Anam Shakil, Yeakub Ali Khan, recitation artiste Shimul Mustapha, Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts director Farhana Chowdhury and others attended the programme.
Cultural organisation Chhayanaut streamed an online programme on its YouTube channel and Facebook page at 8:00pm.
The programme, titled Shantir Joy Hok, featured seven songs of Nazrul, two dance recitals synchronised with Nazrul songs, recitation and discussion on Nazrul’s life and work.
Bangladesh Nazrul Sangeet Sangstha organised an online programme titled Durjoy Moha-Ahoban Taba. The programme was streamed live on the Facebook page of the organisation at 7:00pm.
Bangladesh Sangeet Sangathan Samannay Parishad streamed a live programme on its Facebook page at 9:00pm.
Nazrul singers Tribeni Panna, Anita Adhikari, Ratan Saha, Monira Rawnak, Taslima Begum Nita and others entertained viewers rendering Nazrul songs.
Besides, a recorded programme marking Nazrul’s birth anniversary was aired on BTV and different private TV channels.
