PBI starts quizzing Saidul in Mitu murder case

The Police Bureau of Investigation started interrogating Saidul Islam Sikder Saku on Wednesday in the fresh case filed over the murder of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu in 2016.

Saidul was taken to PBI Chattogram metropolitan office from Chattogram Central Jail on the day, said officials.

A Chattogram court on May 13 granted PBI investigators four days to question Saidul Islam for four days in response to a plea of the investigators to quiz him for seven days in their custody.

The case was filed by Mitu’s father Mosharaf Hossain, a former police inspector.

Rapid Action Battalion on May 12 arrested Saidul at Ranirhat Bazar of Rangunia in Chattogram.

PBI inspector Sontosh Kumar Chakma, also the investigation officer of the case, told New Age that they had started interrogating Saidul.

‘Earlier we interrogated prime accused Babul Akter. He admitted that he gave Tk 3 lakh to Musa. We are suspecting that it was a contract killing and planned by Babul Akter,’ he said.

Meanwhile, a Chattogram court asked police to show another accused Shahjahan Mia, who was in jail, arrested in the Mitu murder case on Wednesday, the IO said.

Former police officer Babul Akter, who turned into as accused from the plaintiff in his wife’s murder case, is the prime accused in the case filed by Mitu’s father.

PBI submitted final report on May 12 in the case filed by Babul Akter in 2016 as investigators found Babul’s involvement in the murder following an investigation for five years.

Mitu was stabbed and shot to death on June 5, 2016 when she was walking her son to his school bus stop at GEC crossing in the city
