The Rapid Action Battalion arrested 18 members of a teenage gang who are allegedly involved in mugging, extortion, stalking women and other criminal activities.
The gang members were arrested in Dhaka’s Ashulia and Diyabari areas on Monday.
The gang leaders are over 18 years old, but most of the members’ ages are between 16 and 18 years, said RAB officials.
RAB-4 commanding officer additional deputy inspector general Mozammel Haque said that the gang members were creating terror in Ashulia and Diyabari areas.
They were involved in mugging, extortion and stalking in the areas. They used to roam together creating panic and carry sharp weapons to terrorise people during mugging.
There were several clashes between rival teenage gangs to establish supremacy, said the RAB officer.
The gangs are also involved in drug taking and peddling.
Three daggers, two machetes, an axe and 410 pieces of Yaba tablets were seized during the separate raids.
