A man was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Awami League and its student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League over establishing supremacy in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Saturday afternoon.
The victim was Fayez Uddin 35, a boatman by profession, son of Jarun Mia of Majherchar village of the upazila.
Shops and houses were vandalised and looted during the intraparty clash at Majherchar in Chanpur union, said Raipura police officer-in-charge Golam Mostafa.
The OC said that Chanpur union AL unit president Moslem Mia and BCL unit president Hazrat Ali lead two groups of ruling party supporters in the union and they often locked in clashes over establishing supremacy.
A tense situation was going between the factions before Eid-ul-Fitr and they were supposed to sit together to resolve the rivalry after Eid.
But on Saturday, supporters of both factions locked in a clash with sharp weapons, said the OC.
Fayez was caught in the clash and succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
The other injured are being treated at different hospitals.
Golam Mostafa said that additional police have been deployed in the area to deal with the situation.
