A security guard of a Bhasantek market was found dead at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area in Dhaka on Sunday morning.
The body of Sujon Mia, a man in his forties, had injury in its head and a towel was wrapped around his neck.
Police said that he might have been killed by the people who robbed a shop of the market at Bhasantek the night before.
Police suspected that robbers killed him as he tried to resist them from robbing shops and they dumped the body at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
Officer-in-charge of Bhasantek Police Station Delwar Hossain said Sujan was a tea vendor and used to work as a guard at the market.
The officer said that robbers broke open a shop named Anik Motors at about 3:30am and took away some batteries.
Sujan might have tried to resist when the robbers went to steal from the shops. At one stage, they hit him in the head and took him to their vehicle, said Zahirul Islam, a sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police, who recovered the body.
The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue in the morning for post-mortem examination.
The morgue officers said that there were blunt injuries to Sujan’s head.
A neighbour said he saw Sujan discharging his duty in front of the shop just before the incident happened. A case was filed.
