A youth shot a local Juba League leader at Khilgaon rail crossing area in Bangladesh capital Dhaka Sunday evening.
The wounded JL leader Saiful Islam, 32, of Khilgaon area is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition as he received three bullets in his chest and belly, said DMCH emergency department doctors.
A woman namely Sumi who took Saiful to DMCH told reporters on the hospital premises that a youth namely Ripon of the area opened fire at Saiful at one stage of altercation in the evening.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s assistant commissioner for Sabujbagh area Rashedul Islam said that Saiful was shot near Khilgaon rail crossing area.
He, however, said that they were yet to know the identity of the assailant or assailants and that they rushed to the spot and started interrogating locals.
He said that they primarily came to know that Saiful was a Juba League leader but could not confirm his post in the ruling Awami League’s youth organisation.
